A tremendous turnout yet again, 26 anglers, well 25 actually as Mick Platt did his own thing yet again on Gills. He had 6 Fan tails and 4 carp for 18lb. Well done Mick. The main match as you can see from the weights was a cracking one with Dick putting together a great weight of 81lb. As you can see the bait of the day was definately corn. It was a bit unfortunate for those who drew from pegs 25 onwards, as really the fish yet again were just not there! Commiserations to you all. There was a rumour going round that I should catch more fish more often as according to Banjo Dave the whole lake was very quite and peiceful this week because I did so well. I just think it was sour grapes as he had draw a real flyer, peg 19 and came nowhere! Finally, a few of us where noticing Countesthorpe Chris raising 2 fingers each time we had fish on. We can only think it was to stop him from getting cramp! See you all next week.

Due to the freezing conditions over the previous 3 days, it was decided to switch todays match to Trotters. Another great turnout 19 anglers, well 18 as young Micky Platt ventured down to Gills yet again on peg 24, unfortunately Mick struggled abit due to the gin clear condition. As for the main match, a great result for Keith Hudson with a brilliant 63lb. Well done Keith. Shaun was second with a well earned 26lb. There were 3 tied on 3rd with 15lb. Chatting to a few anglers before the match about holidays, I couldn't quite understand a comment from Countesthorpe Windows, when talking about them he said he had never been abroad before only places like Austrailia!!..???? That must be that place just past Blaby then!

Well, this is second attempt at doing this as 30 minutes typing last night for some reason did not work!! Anyway, once again we had a cracking turnout of 28 anglers, well 27 actually as Micky Platt decided to fish Gills all on his own as he finds Trotters too difficult..... don't we all! Mick had a great session down there catching 7 fan tails, 6 crucians and 3 carp for 20+ lbs. Well done Mick. Now down to the main match. Rody Poole was top rod here with a superb weight of 55lbs fishing the cage feeder with palony on the hook. As you can see feeder tactics was the method of the day. Well done Rody. The quote of the day had to be Chris (acka Countesthorpe Windows) Wade who informed me his one fish albeit a good double figure fish weighed more than all my fish put together, well, Chris weighed in just 8lb, rumour has it, nearer 7 but nowhere near 10! I weighed in 10.8lb. As they say Chris, never voice your thoughts until after the weigh in. You'll never learn Chris will you. See you all next week.
Well, not quite, just had a request from a certain gentleman requesting I mention Dick Makepiece who came second last week, was actually on the next peg to me and weighed in 44lb to my 10lb.8oz. This request came minutes after the certain gentleman today (Tuesday) blanked on Moby........... biteless and fishless. Sour grapes spring to mind!!!. I always try to keep people anonymous but just to say this certain gentleman makes his own superb banjo feeders!!

The Tuesday Opens seem to be picking up in popularity with top rod going to Dave Cleaver with a tremendous weight of 61lb, well done Dave. Now a very special mention must go to Malc Burley who picked up monies for the first time in a long long while. When I asked him what he put his 2nd place down to he said he owed it all to his wife!! Well, I suppose you can't argue with tyhat.

Another cracking turnout again this week, 22 anglers arrived after the christmas festivities. Unfortunately I missed this weeks match due to grandchildren commitments ! Once again Dick Makepiece finished on top with a superb weight of 88lb. Good backup weights from Keith Hudson and Dave Cleaver. All the top weights came from feeder tactics. It was good to see Trev Slater drawing the lucky peg and picking up monies, rumour has it it's the only way he will pick up any money! See you all next .

Another excellent turnout, 21 anglers arrived for todays draw, conditions the best they have been all week. The weights themselves were an improvement on the last time we were on Gills with only 7 failing to weigh in. For the second week running on Gills peg 24 provided the winner.. Sean Powell. Well done Sean. It was good to see young Don Slater back this week after a little lay off, hopefully your £1's will be moving again Don? Sadly, poor old John Looms had the lucky peg but unfortunately it wasn't that lucky for him today as he failed to catch a fish! Well at least it meant more of a payout for the first 4 he! he!. Anyway, thats all for this week, I will not be around for next weeks matches on Tuesday and Thursday but Roddy will be if anyone fancies a knock up. Happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous NewYear to you all.

Another cracking turnout, 26 anglers with what turned out to be a very tough match, very cold and blustery conditions. Top rod yet again on his favorite peg was Stu Pool catching 8 carp on triple hair rigged corn for 38lb. In second place with 2 superb carp for 22lb was Phil Gibson. The quote of the week has to be Keith Hudson, when I told him I had good news and bad news, he asked for the bad news first which was l had drawn for him but the good news was it was the lucky peg and his comment was "Oh no I can't win overall as I have the lucky peg" and when I informed him he only had to catch 1 fish for £10, he said" sod the money I want the prestige of winning". Theres no pleasing some peopleis there!
Just to say 23 of us had a superb meal afterwards and a big thank-you to Julie and all her helpers, Rita, Emma, Bev and Del Boy, they all made us feel very welcome and the atmosphere was great. Everyone without exception thoroughly enjoyed it and it is hoped to do this again on a regular basis. Finally, we
have had over 100 anglers turned out over the last 4 weeks so we must be doing something right !

Apologies for no write-ups the last 2 weeks, I've been busy and away. It's ironic that the first week I start writing again I actually won the match (I still would have done the write-up even if I had not won....I think!). It was a real grueller today, 15 anglers never had a bite or weighed in!! I have never seen so many walking the bank, even Rody was one, for I think the first time ever. Dave Cleaver rang me and said he had no chance of getting a bite from peg 37, with an hour or so to go and when I said why not he said because he was sitting in is car!!! I think performance of the day has to be Phil Burgess (who never swears by the way), he weighed in a creditable 2lb. Rumour has it he wasn't going to weigh in thinking his weight was not worth it. Well done Phil. Just to say well done to Countesthorpe Chris Wade (Aka Windows) for a superb 45lb last week on Trotters (it must have been solid!). Finally, don't forget the end of season meal next week straight after the fishing.

Once again we had a cracking turn-out, 25 anglers were here for this weeks match. Quite supprisingly 11 anglers failed to weigh in this week, but yet again Dave Cleaver came out on top with 38lb. One of our new members Mick ? (sorry it didn't get his last name as he had to go straight off after the match) had a great mirror carp weighing in 15lb which helped him take 3rd place.
When I got to my peg to start setting up who should be setup and ready to fish..... yes you have guessed it Micky Platt. He was concentrating so hard on getting things right this week he got mixed up with peg 37 and 38!!! I suppose there is not a lot of difference! The quote of the week came from John Loomes, fishing peg 23 John weighed in 6lbs and said he would have had alot more weight but unfortuneately one of the 2 roach he caught missed the net when putting it in his keep net. It must have been a big roach John !!
ps : Just thought I would go down to 5th place this week! See you all next week.

Well this week we had the best ever turn out for a Thursday Open, would you believe 29 anglers, 3 of whom were ladies. Congratulations to Dave Cleaver, returning to winning ways after 2 weeks away at the Whiteacres Festival. Dave acheived a brilliant 4th place overall just missing out on 3rd place by 10 oz, well done Dave (he has photo's to prove it! sad isn't it). This weeks mention has to be Phil Burgess, having drawn virtually the most consistant peg on the lake, peg 34 (which was won off last time out) Phil managed in 5 hours to blank completely. He said he did have one bite, having watched the float disappear for 10 seconds he wasn't quite sure what was happening and by the time he struck there was nothing there.
We think you ought to change you head gear Phil !
As a final mention, I know I said I wouldn't, ask Micky Platt how to prepare expanded pellets, it helps Mick if the bag mentions the word expanders on it! Mick now has a bait box full of pumped loose feed pellets, if anyone wants any give him a call. See you all next week
